Behind the Scenes of The Met Report

Photojournalist Bridget Powers gives an in depth behind the scenes look into what makes The Met Report tick. Get a look at some of the talented volunteer students that have helped out during the taping of our newscast.

Amanda Allen has been a reporter and technical support for the Met
Report since fall 2006. This semester she serves as the shows associate director, producer, and anchor. This semester she hopes to maintain and excel
the over all quality of the show and website. Amanda is a Speech Communications major with a concentration in Broadcast Performance and a minor in Public Relations. She is on schedule to graduate in fall 2007 and hopes to find work at one of the local news stations before then.

 
Amanda is originally from Fresno California but has come to love
everything Denver has to offer, especially downtown and the mountains.
When she’s not diligently working on her studies she enjoys being a fun loving mom, wife, friend and bartender.

  Carissa Deutscher has been the technical director since she began the MetReport in Spring '07. This semester she is the director maintaining the overall quality of the weekly newscast. Carissa is graduating in May '08 with a doulbe major in Speech Communication and technical communications. Carissa is dedicated to a career in television broadcasting, video and film production. Carissa anticipates a long career in television and traveling around the world to pursue it.

Carissa also keeps a part-time job in market research. She loves live music, playing poker, skydiving, white water river rafting, traveling, cooking, and gardening.

  Amy Ferguson has been with the Met Report since Fall of 2006. She is currently an anchor and reporter. Her major is Speech Communications with an emphasis in Broadcast Performance and a minor in music. Amy has aspirations of becoming a news anchor/reporter upon her graduation in the Spring of 2008.
 
Amy is a Colorado native and currently works as a bartender and server at the Texas Roadhouse in Aurora. She enjoys playing music, working out, playing poker and hanging out with friends and family. She also enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter.

  Eric Lansing serves as the Met Reports sports director and has been contributing since fall ’06. Eric is also the sports editor for the Metropolitan as well as the basketball play-by-play announcer for MetRadio. Eric plans to do all of these jobs until he graduates in spring ’08. He is a NewsEd major with a minor in Television Production. Eric aspires to be involved in sports whether that involves newspaper, TV, radio or all three.
 
Eric was born in Northglenn but moved to Virginia when he was five. He spent the next 10 years there before moving back to Colorado where Eric says there is no better place for sports media. Eric loves to read, write, and play basketball in his few spare moments.

      Geoff Sawtell serves as technical director, audio supervisor, graphics manager, photographer, and assistant director for the Met Report. As you can see, Geoff is pretty much the backbone of the Met Report. Geoff joined the Met Report in spring of 2002. He is majoring in broadcast production, and hpes to graduate one of these days.
 
Geoff has lived in Denver for the last 19 years and has experience in technical production from live theatre to news to sports. Aside from the Met Report, Geoff also works as an editor at Channel 9.

    Rosie Stringer is beginning her second semester with the Met Report as an anchor and reporter. She is majoring in Broadcast Production with a minor in Digital Media. When she graduates she wants to pursue career opportunities at the Travel Channel.
 
Rosie spends her free time skiing, playing volleyball and attending concerts. At the age of 11, she won an International Free Throw Championship in Guam. Rosie is from Kansas originally and is the youngest of eight siblings. She has put up with alot, having six older brothers.

Mark Babish is beginning his first semester a sports reporter with the Met Report. He is a junior majoring in Broadcast Production. After Mark graduates he is pursuing a career in sports anchoring and in the sports industry.
 
Mark is a huge sports fan. He enjoys playing many different indoor soccer leagues. His favorite teams are the Patriots and Blue Devils.

Reece King a Grand Junction native, is enjoying his second semester at the MetReport working as an Anchor and Reporter. Reece is a Junior at Metro Majoring in Broadcast Journalism and one day hopes to host a morning news program.
He enjoys going out with friends, skiing, and doing charity work.

Johnathan Galovan is in his second semester with the Met Report as a Anchor. He is majoring in Broadcast Journalism and minoring in Political Science. Johnathan wants to pursue either a career in television news as an investigative reporter or as a police officer.
 
Johnathan loves heavy metal music, live shows, playing golf, sport bike motorcycles, and the outdoors. He enjoys watching TV and cannot do without his TiVo.

Tara Schwartz is beginning her first semester with the Met Report as a sports anchor and reporter. She is majoring in Broadcast Journalism and Technical Communications. Tara is also interning at Altitude. She is pursuing a career in television news and sports.
 
Tara is a busy woman with two children, whom she enjoys spending her spare time with. She also likes to snowboard.

Ellese Laner is currently a junior studying Broadcast Productions with a minor in Advertising. Her goals are to become an anchor or reporter and eventually in the long run a producer.
 
Ellese enjoys plating soccer, tennis, and shopping. She loves spending time with her family, and is passionate about making people laugh.

Cherie Swenson is a first semester reporter for the Met Report. She is a Speech Communications Major with an emphasis in Broadcast Productions, with a minor in Spanish. Cherie is interested in working as a cultural consultant. She is scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2009.
 
Cherie is an avid animal lover and enjoys being in nature. She spends her spare time with her family and in her vegetable garden. She also volunteers with the homeless, tutoring first graders and facilitating community events.

Evan Luthye was Born and raised in Westminster, Evan began his college career at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA. There, he played football, was a member of a social service group, wrote for the newspaper and hosted a radio show. Evan returned to Denver in 2005 to finish his bachelors at Metro State. Evan is double majoring in journalism and broadcast performance. He is a regular contributor at the Metropolitan.
 
Evan spends what little free time he has volunteer coaching youth sports. He stays active by camping, hiking, and playing softball, football and disc golf.
